As a core layer of urban infrastructure, fiber networks run through invisible and complex paths including underground conduits, manholes, and entry sections. When a fault occurs, pinpointing the physical cut location quickly is difficult, and fragmented drawings or manual route ledgers do not support fast tracing of live connection relationships. Those delays increase outage duration and create significant social and economic cost.

Introducing an intelligent integrated control platform based on GIS and OTDR linkage

To remove those monitoring blind spots, spatial GIS data and the physical topology of optical cables were mapped together to create digital visibility. OTDR interfaces were linked in real time so that cable cuts and signal attenuation could be analyzed remotely and overlaid on a map as precise fault coordinates. At the same time, an intelligent workflow engine automatically sends the best recovery route and standard response procedures to field teams.

Fault-location error within 10 meters and a 60% reduction in recovery time

With combined GIS and OTDR analysis, the system reduced fault-location uncertainty to within 10 meters and removed much of the wasted search effort in the field. That allowed operators to shorten both initial recognition and full restoration time by more than 60% once an incident occurs. By turning route information into digital operating assets, the project established a governance standard for more reliable maintenance of national communication networks and large infrastructure facilities.
